Watch Celtic talent impress with 'super' goal scored on Thursday night

Celtic youngster Johnny Kenny was hunting for goals again on Thursday night, scoring a winner for Shamrock Rovers against Dundalk out on loan.

Kenny is having an impressive season in Ireland after extending his loan spell at Rovers for the 2024 season.

He’s now netted nine goals in total from 19 appearances and looks good value to head well into double figures by the end of the campaign.

His latest came last night and it was a super effort. Latching onto Dylan Watts’ fine chipped ball forward, Kenny controlled the ball nicely with his first touch before lashing a fierce far post shot across the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

Kenny honing winning mentality out on loan

Back in May, Kenny stated he was hoping to improve and impress Celtic while at Rovers: “I have to be that and better if I want to have a chance of playing for Celtic. I think Celtic and Shamrock Rovers are similar, as everyone wants to beat them, and everyone wants what they have. It’s the same mentality that you need because everyone is gunning for you.

“To be honest, (there is) very little interaction. Last year, I don’t think I heard once. This year, it’s a bit better. Darren O’Dea has stepped into that kind of role, another Irishman, and I’ve heard more this year. But interaction is minimal. I hope as I perform, it gets better. If you’re not performing, why would they get in touch with you?”

Kenny’s best chance of catching the eye at Celtic is racking up an impressive goal tally this season. The Bhoys hold an option on his contract until 2026 but decisions will likely be made on his future over the next 12 months.

If he can return to Glasgow for assessment off the back of strong scoring form in the second half of Shamrock Rovers’ season it will seriously boost his claim for a shot at the Bhoys.
