Report: 'Talented' Wolves player now wanted by club to replace £16.9m forward Everton have signed

Wolves have some very talented footballers in the ranks right now, but one is attracting interest from a club who have an ambitious new manager.

After a hot and cold campaign in 2023/24, which Gary O’Neil will be disappointed with considering how well things were going at the peak, Wolves have a big summer to improve.

Already there have been four arrivals to the club with Jorgen Strand Larsen arriving on loan with the potential for it to become permanent.

Tommy Doyle made his move permanent from Manchester City, while 18-year-old Brazilian Pedro Lima has joined from Sport Recife and Rodrigo Gomes from Braga has also joined.

All these deals have now been covered by the big sale of Max Kilman to West Ham for around £40m, but another sale could also be on the cards if reports are to be believed.

Marseille now showing an interest in Hwang Hee-chan

Hwang Hee-chan was one of Wolves’ standout performers last season when available but those strong performances and 12 Premier League goals have now seen him attract some interest elsewhere.

According to a report from L’Equipe, Hwang is now on the list for Marseille, who are keen to bolster their attacking options in the wake of selling Iliman Ndiaye to Everton for £16.9m.

The management in Marseille appreciates the 28-year-old and Marseille president Pablo Longoria has already approached him in the past.

It’s added that new Marseille boss Roberto de Zerbi is also a fan of Hwang, with his intense style impressing the Italian during Wolves’ clashes with Brighton.

Marseille however have not yet begun negotiations with Wolves, and are aware that a deal may be tough to complete with a contract until 2028 and also a sizeable asking price for the player Son Heung-min has lauded as being “talented”.

The Ligue 1 club are also keen on Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood, for whom they have reportedly already bid.

Wolves would be ludicrous to sell Hwang for cheap

For Wolves and O’Neil, Hwang is one of the best performers at the club, and he should be held onto by all means necessary.

This is at least unless a big bid does arrive, however, this report seems to suggest Marseille would instead be looking for a cut-price move.

In just 25 starts in the Premier League last season, Hwang scored 12 goals and also added three assists. This all with just 2,124 minutes of on-field action which works out as a goal contribution every 141.6 minutes or a goal contribution for every 1.573 90s played.

Quite simply, Hwang should be fetching top dollar, and Wolves shouldn’t settle for less. Particularly when a big sale in the form of Kilman has already been made.
