Manchester City supporters have had the pleasure of seeing a significant number of their players in action throughout the 2024 European Championship.
With 14 members of Pep Guardiola’s squad picked to represent their countries in the tournament, 10 of them have made it to the quarter-final stage of the competition.
Looking ahead to the next round of fixtures, a pundit has shared some significant praise for one particular City star and what he’s done for his national side in the tournament so far.
Scott Minto amazed by ‘sensational’ Rodri at Euro 2024
While assessing the quarter-final matches of the tournament in a recent episode of Euros All Access, Minto had this to say about Rodri and the goal he scored in Spain’s 4-1 win over Georgia in the knockout round.
He said: “I think Rodri is just sensational in his position.
“And the goal he scored the other night with his first touch, the way he put it into a space, there were three or four players around him, and yet he still put it into a place where he’s able to get that shot off.
“It’s just awareness and technique at its very best.”
Rodri has been crucial for Spain
Despite only appearing in three of the four games Spain have played in the tournament prior to their quarter-final match against Germany, only two other players have racked up more minutes than Rodri (265).
In addition to having the second-highest total of progressive passes (26) in the Spain squad, the 28-year-old, who Paul Merson recently said is on another level to the likes of Toni Kroos and Declan Rice, also has the second-highest number of successful tackles (4).
With that in mind and the fact that he scored what was an important goal for his side in their previous game against Georgia, it comes as no surprise to us that Minto has been so impressed with what he’s seen from Rodri.
