Ollie Palmer explains the one key factor that convinced him to make club-record switch to Wrexham

Ollie Palmer has revealed the key factor that drew him to sign for Wrexham.

Forward Ollie Palmer became Wrexham’s record signing after joining the club in a £300,000 move from AFC Wimbledon in 2022.

Palmer has been a huge part of Phil Parkinson’s side in their back-to-back promotions to League One.

The 32-year-old has been a constant presence in the squad, forming a strong strike partnership with star striker Paul Mullin.

Since joining the club, the former Crawley Town forward has scored 39 goals in 105 appearances.

Palmer will be looking to continue his goalscoring form in Wrexham’s first League One campaign in almost 20 years. He has an important role and will need to step up after Mullin’s injury blow.

The English target man is loving life at the Racecourse and has revealed what made him move to North Wales in 2022.

Ollie Palmer reveals the fans were a huge part of his decision

Palmer has revealed that after talking to Parkinson and learning more about the club’s history and culture it was an easy decision to make.

The Wrexham frontman has appeared on the American platform CBS and has talked about his experience of playing at the Racecourse.

Talking about his move to Wrexham, Palmer said: ” When I spoke to Phil Parkinson, I hate saying he was selling it to me because he didn’t really need to,

“He explained to me what the club’s vision was and where they wanted to go.

“It was not about the owners, but about the fans, the football club, the community and what they had been through, and where they now wanted to go.

“Obviously the owners coming in did have had a huge impact on that,

“They’ve invested heavily, and they have done more than what people realise, including myself, and I just realised it was a real sleeping giant.”

Commenting on his decision and his time at the club, Palmer added: “It has been the best experience ever in the last couple of years.”

Palmer’s future in doubt at the Racecourse?

The club record signing only has one year left on his contract at the Racecourse. With the striker being a more senior member of the squad, it will be interesting to see how his future pans out.

Currently, Palmer is a big part of Parkinson’s team with the forward providing 10 goal contributions in League Two last season.

The six-foot-five striker will be looking to improve his goal tally in League One and prove to the club they should award him with a contract extension.

Palmer is capable of quality in front of goal, he has shown his dangerous profile for opposing defenders since arriving in North Wales.

This season will be a step up in quality and provide a new challenge for the Wrexham squad. With potential attacking arrivals it remains to be seen what Palmer’s future will look like.
