Joe Willock issues two-word message to Newcastle United fans ahead of pre-season

After a disappointing 2023/24 season, this campaign is massive for Newcastle United’s Joe Willock.

The 24-year-old played a key role in helping the Magpies qualify for the Champions League, but was unable to kick on last season due to injury.

Joe Willock was unavailable for most of the campaign, missing 37 games in total. He made just 14 appearances in all competitions, with multiple injuries making it a frustrating year for the Newcastle United midfielder.

First it was a hamstring problem, and that was followed by an Achilles issue. Then that Achilles issue refused to truly go away, before Eddie Howe called time on Willock’s season.

The decision was made for Willock to miss the final few weeks of the campaign, despite him probably being able to play on and power through. Instead, the club decided that he should go away and completely recover from his injury, with the view to being fully fit for pre-season.

That is not far away now, and it has been reported that Willock is expected to be ready for the new Premier League season.

Joe Willock’s message ahead of Newcastle pre-season

And he has now sent a short message to Toon fans, as he continues to work on his fitness away from the club’s training ground.

While the players are still yet to report for pre-season, Willock has been putting in the work to be ready in time for the 2024/25 campaign.

He has been sharing updates on his official Instagram account, and has now delivered a two-word message to his followers.

Alongside a selection of images of him training, he wrote: “Feeling ready.”

Important that Willock is ready for the new season to start

Willock certainly looks ready, and that is massively positive with the players soon reporting back for pre-season.

It is vital that Willock gets a full summer of training under his belt, having missed out on that last summer.

And given Newcastle’s issues in midfield, Willock will be particularly keen to prove his fitness early on.

Elliot Anderson has now left the club to sign for Nottingham Forest, while Lewis Miley is out injured. That means Newcastle are already two midfielders light heading into the summer, while Sandro Tonali is not eligible to play again until August 27th.

Therefore, Willock has a decent chance of starting the new season in Eddie Howe’s starting XI, as he prepares to compete with Joelinton and Sean Longstaff for the honour of playing alongside Bruno Guimaraes. One of them will miss out, and Willock will be keen to ensure that it is not him.
