Wolves shortlist four Max Kilman replacements: Examining each canditate who could join Molineux

With Max Kilman set to depart Wolves in the coming days, four players have now been listed as potential replacements for the captain.

Wolves’ summer is showing no signs of slowing down. After already confirming three signings over the past week, captain Kilman is now set to depart West Ham for £40 million.

This no doubt leaves a massive hole in the club, not only is the Englishman the captain, but Wolves are already short on players in his position.

There are hopes that Yerson Mosquera could become the new heir to Kilman. However, more reinforcements at centre-back are expected from the Molineux faithful.

With Kilman now set to be one of Wolves’ most expensive departures, there is plenty of room for investment at the back.

As a result, it has now been reported that the club have already made a shortlist of potential candidates to replace their captain.

Wolves list four potential candidates to replace Max Kilman

With Kilman’s departure, Wolves will be down to just four senior centre-halves – Craig Dawson, Toti Gomes, Santiago Bueno and Mosquera.

Seeing this as an issue, Gary O’Neil’s side have now highlighted four potential replacements.

According to The Athletic, Nico Elvedi could be pursued again while Thomas Beelen, David Carmo and Jacob Greaves are also on the radar.

Below Molineux News has given a rundown for each player and how much each one could cost.

Elvedi was heavily linked to Wolves last summer before the club eventually brought in Santiago Bueno.

The Swiss defender has played for German side Borussia Monchengladbach since 2015 and has amassed over 300 appearances for the club.

Similar to Kilman, he is seen as a great ball-playing centre-half and can play as a left-sided defender despite being right-footed.

His form has seen him selected for the 2024 Euros for his country but he is yet to make an appearance.

It is believed that there is a release clause in his contract for £8.5 million which could be a bargain for Wolves.

Who is Thomas Beelen?

Beelen has already been linked to Wolves earlier this window. The centre-back currently plays for Dutch giants Feyenoord and has already amassed a big reputation.

After making his debut in the Champions League last season, Beelen helped his side win the KNVB Cup.

Despite only making senior 58 appearances, 25 of which were for Feyenoord, he has already built up a big reputation.

It is believed that £17 million would be enough to bring the defender to Molineux this summer.

Another defender who has earned a big reputation thanks to the 2023/24 campaign is Carmo.

Stood at 6’5” and only being 24 years old, the defender has the potential to dominate the field for years to come.

The Angolan centre-back spent 2024 on loan to Olympiacos where he played a crucial role in overseeing their Europa Conference League victory, Greece’s first-ever European trophy.

Now back at parent club Porto, it is believed that Wolves could get a price-cut deal for Carmo with the Portuguese giants under financial pressure.

Who is Jacob Greaves?

The final player on the list is Hull City’s Jacob Greaves. After progressing through the Tigers’ academy, he made his debut in the 2020/21 season where they won League One.

Since then, he has been a rock at the back and won the Hull Young Player of the Season Award three seasons in a row between 2021-23.

However, the 2023/24 campaign was arguably his most impressive as he swooped the Hull Player of the Season Award and earned a spot in the Championship Team of the Season.

Former Hull manager Liam Rosenior last season said: “Jacob’s an outstanding player. Would I rather have him here from a footballing point of view? One hundred percent, because he’s got so much potential and so much to learn.”

Multiple Premier League teams are believed to be after Greaves with Ipswich hunting. It is believed that an offer of between £15-20 million will be enough to secure his services.
