'My hunch': Journalist predicts whether Arsenal will actually sign Riccardo Calafiori after speaking to contacts

Riccardo Calafiori is the player being most strongly linked with a move to Arsenal at the moment.

The Italian defender is said to be someone the Gunners are very keen on, with a bid said to have gone in for the centre-back.

However, there’s a different picture being painted by some reporters.

Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth is led to believe that no formal approach has been made, while speaking on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, Dean Jones has said similar.

Indeed, Jones has said that his sources have claimed that no bid has gone in, and his hunch is that Calafiori won’t be signing for the north London club.

Riccardo Calafiori won’t be joining Arsenal

Jones shared his verdict on the Calafiori rumours.

“I personally don’t think Saliba is going, I don’t think Real Madrid are signing and my hunch is that these deals don’t happen. I don’t think Arsenal sign Calafiori, nobody who I have checked with today have actually been able to confirm that Arsenal have made that bid,” Jones said.

“Usually you’d get Matt Law, Sami Mokbel or David Ornstein all over an Arsenal bid for somebody, but that hasn’t happened,” Jones said.

Calafiori story seems strange

There’s been a lot of stories around Calafiori, but, as Jones says, the reporting on this transfer has been rather strange.

Indeed, the British press have had very little to say about Calafiori with many of the big journalists you’d usually associate with Arsenal playing down these reported bids.

Meanwhile, the media in Italy are playing things up, and that would suggest that it is Bologna who are feeding a lot of this information and claiming that Arsenal have made these offers.

It’s always difficult to get to the bottom of any transfer story, and, as Jones says, it wouldn’t be a huge shock if Calafiori didn’t actually end up signing for Arsenal.
