'Move approved': Sheffield Wednesday target now set for £4m transfer to European side - Fabrizio Romano

Danny Rohl’s Sheffield Wednesday have lost out on an attacking option.

Transfer dealings at Sheffield Wednesday have been relentless ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, with the loan signing of James Beadle being the most recent addition to Danny Rohl’s ever growing Championship squad.

The momentum of signings has followed on from the incredible finish to the 2023/24 Championship season, where they stayed up on the last day against Sunderland.

After the defensive signings of Yan Valery and Max Lowe, Rohl has now turned his attention to getting a goalscorer through the door at Sheffield Wednesday.

Swedish winger Olaf Kobacki has already arrived this summer with proven goal scoring ability, bagging 15 goals in the Polish second tier.

However, they have now missed out on an international attacking target, who has made the move to Austria.

Sheffield Wednesday lose out on Mika Biereth to Sturm Graz

Sheffield Wednesday target Mika Biereth has joined Austrian side Sturm Graz permanently from Arsenal for a reported £4m deal, according to Fabrizio Romano on X.

The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Sturm Graz, where he went on to score five and assist two more in 15 Austrian Bundesliga appearances, helping his side win the league title.

The Danish U21 international was linked with a move to Hillsborough back in January before his loan move across the continent.

Sheffield Wednesday have since moved on to former Owls loanee Ike Ugbo, who netted seven goals in the second half of the 2023/24 campaign.

Have Sheffield Wednesday dodged a bullet in Mika Biereth transfer saga

Sheffield Wednesday have undoubtedly missed out on a proven goalscorer in Biereth, who bagged five times in 15 matches.

His experience spanning across a season in the Eredivisie and Scottish Premiership at just the age of 21 would have certainly helped the Owls this season, although the price tag attached to the Dane gives Sheffield Wednesday all the more reason in looking elsewhere for attacking talent.

Although he had successful back-to-back loan spells at both Sturm Graz and Motherwell, this form may not have translated easily into Championship football, with the level being higher.

Ugbo as an alternative to Biereth makes much more sense in terms of the type of play that the Canadian can provide, alongside already playing under Rohl.

Sheffield Wednesday have lost out on a strong transfer target, but they are by no means short of options for players who would be able to provide as much as Biereth for a smaller fee.
