Celtic confirm early season fixture changes

Celtic have confirmed two of their early season Scottish Premiership matches have been moved due to Sky Sports coverage.

The away kick-off against St Mirren that was scheduled for Saturday, August 25th has been moved to a day later on Sunday, August 26th, with a new kick-off time of 12pm.

A week later, the massive home derby versus Rangers has been moved from its Saturday slot to Sunday, September 1st at 12:30pm.

It will be a disappointment for plenty of fans to see matches from prime slots on Saturdays to Sundays with travel and work commitments often more of a factor.

However, this is the nature of the TV deal that the league has struck with Sky Sports – they get to pick and choose which slots they want to broadcast Celtic in.

Tasty start to the season for Celtic

Celtic’s first six fixtures of the campaign are shaping up to be challenging, but exciting. At home to last season’s thorn-in-the-side Kilmarnock on the opening day, there are subsequent away trips to Hibernian and St Mirren to contend with.

Then there’s the chance to lay down a marker on Rangers for the season ahead with the aforementioned derby.

After all the business both clubs do during the summer months, it’ll be very interesting to see how the rivalry is looking on the pitch at the start of September.

With a home match against Hearts and a trip to face St Johnstone in the weeks after, Celtic have plenty of big matches to look forward to before even embarking on the UEFA Champions League group stage.

The countdown is on towards another potential season of silverware.
