Liverpool have already suggested they’re going to make ‘brilliant’ player their big signing of 2025

Liverpool appear set for a quiet transfer window as they ease into the Arne Slot era.

The Reds have had plenty to do over the summer so far. As well as Slot arriving there has also been a big turnover of Liverpool staff.

Consequently, it feels as though transfer plans have taken a bit of a backseat at Anfield. There is still a long way to go before the deadline on August 30th, but Liverpool are yet to do anything at all.

There are one or two areas of the Liverpool squad that feel like they could do with some attention. However, nothing is especially pressing.

With the Reds happy to take their time over transfers, we think Slot and FSG are preparing a statement signing to come down the line.

Liverpool preparing for Anthony Gordon transfer

Part of the reason Jurgen Klopp left Liverpool when he did was because he felt the squad was in a good place, ready to be handed over.

Although things can always be improved, that is definitely true. The group is big and full of quality. There are also some top youngsters coming through at Liverpool who can help boost the numbers.

As a result, it feels that Slot is taking over at a good time. The new head coach will bring his own ideas of course, but he has the tools to really build something from day one.

Partly because of that, and partly because of the upheaval in more senior positions at the club, it feels as though Liverpool will remain quiet throughout this summer’s transfer window.

They could do with a new centre-back perhaps. But we’d argue that given the lack of activity so far, promoting Sepp van den Berg now feels like the most likely solution to that ‘problem.’

Another area that has reportedly been of interest to the Liverpool recruitment team is in the forward positions.

With the Reds seemingly unlikely to do anything major this summer, we think they’ve very much got their eye on signing Anthony Gordon in 2025.

Liverpool have reportedly already turned Gordon’s head after initial talks with Newcastle last weekend. Although nothing came of it in the end, it seems as though the 23-year-old is now very much interested in a move to Anfield.

Anthony Gordon to join Liverpool in 2025

While Gordon would have been a top signing for Liverpool this summer, he would also have been a slightly unnecessary one. Slot has some good options for the left of his attack.

In a year’s time though, things might look different. Luis Diaz’s future has been the cause of much speculation, for example.

The Colombian looks likely to stay this summer but 28 next year and with another year down on his contract, that could change in 12 months.

Things could also be different in terms of Darwin Nunez. Nunez still has credit in the bank to last another season but if he fails to deliver on his potential yet again, Liverpool could look to move him on. Mohamed Salah is also likely to go. Slot will need a forward.

Even without the possible departures, though, Gordon would just make sense. In 2025 the Scouser will have just a year left on his deal. Liverpool could get a ‘brilliant’ player for a decent sized fee.

With Gordon said to be desperate to make the move, the player himself also wouldn’t need much convincing.

Newcastle’s resistance has already been tested this summer, but this is just the opening salvo. Next year the knockout blow is coming. The warning signs are flashing.
