Report: Arsenal set £25m price tag for Mikel Arteta signing who was ‘unbelievable’ last season

Arsenal have now set their asking price for a player who Mikel Arteta only welcomed to the club at the start of 2023.

It promises to be a busy July and August for Edu and his recruitment team who appear yet to have made serious progress.

Perhaps Arsenal’s pursuit of Riccardo Calafiori is the exception to that statement – if reports in Italy are to be believed.

The clubs are reportedly now progressing with their talks and Arsenal are confident that they can beat competition from Chelsea to sign Calafiori.

Otherwise, Arsenal are thought to also want to sign a new central midfielder and forward this summer.

Perhaps the midfielder will be a new number six to play alongside Declan Rice, who seems set to continue in a more advanced role than he plays for his country, England.

That being said, all of these targets won’t arrive without players leaving two – departures intended to raise funds and create space in the squad.

And should Bologna agree to sell Calafiori to Arsenal, many believe that Jakub Kiwior could head the other way, back to Italy.

Juventus told Arsenal want £25m for Jakub Kiwior this summer

Arsenal signed Kiwior from Spezia towards the end of the January transfer window last year but may now decide to move on from the defender.

Kiwior enjoyed some ‘unbelievable’ performances – as hailed by Ally McCoist, at left-back for Arsenal last season.

However, the Polish centre-back wasn’t able to sustain that form, given he was ultimately playing out of position.

And amid reports that Napoli want to buy Kiwior from Arsenal, Calciomercato have now shared a report detailing the defender will cost interested clubs €30m (£25m).

According to the report, Kiwior is still a priority target for Juventus, who could line up Jean-Clair Todibo as an alternative should the Poland defender remain in north London.

That being said, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where both Calafiori and Kiwior are regularly receiving game time under Arteta at Arsenal.

And judging by their individual performances at Euro 2024, the Italian would appear to have the higher ceiling, a more tactically fluid profile.

All that being said, it now seems as if a young Arsenal striker could be ready to leave for a Premier League rival.
