The Top 4 Baked Sweets at MUJI with Less than 10g of Sugar

Up until recently you would have seen a lot of products marketing themselves as "low in calories" but in more recent times it seems that attention is now focused on being low in sugar. If you are worried about your sugar intake but are still looking for a sweet treat, then you will love MUJI's baked sweets range. Each product in this range contains less than 10 grams of sugar!

The Fantastic Four!

Let's jump right in! These are our top picks for the four best baked sweets at Muji. They are all 150 JPY (incl. tax), meaning that they will put a smile on your face without breaking the bank.

・Kugloff (Sugar: 6.3g)
The kougloff sweets are not made with wheat flour, instead they use a combination of soy flour and wheat bran. They are flavored with the pleasing taste of cocoa and almond.

・Chocolate Kougloff (Sugar: 6.6g)
This kugloff is similarly made with a combination of soy flour and wheat bran, forgoing wheat flour. They also contain hazelnuts.

・Madeleine (Sugar: 8.65g)
These madeleines are made from a combination of wheat bran and almond powder rather than traditional wheat flour. Their unique selling point is their rich and soft texture.

・Financier (Sugar: 9.0g)
Just like the madeleines, the financiers are also made from a combination of wheat bran and almond powder rather than traditional wheat flour. If you choose to opt for a financier you can also enjoy a uniquely rich and soft texture.

Low Sugar but Delicious!

When you see on the wrapper that a piece of confectionery is less than 10g of sugar, while you may be happy from a health perspective, at the same time it can make the sweets appear somewhat dull. We wondered whether these sweets bucked this trend, so we picked them up to give them a try.

These were not the usualy light and fluffy sweets you might expect, instead packing a strong and full bite. However, this doesn't mean that they are stodgy, as the texture was perfectly fine. Regarding the all important taste, none were too sweet. You could really taste the ingredients used in each different type, such as almonds and hazelnuts. We personally enjoyed the flavors in each of the four products in the range.

As you saw above, the price of each of these items is 150 JPY including tax. They would be perfect as a little accompanying snack for a tea party or small gathering, or as a small gift when you have been invited to someone else's home. There are a lot of other products beyond the baked sweets in MUJI's low-sugar series, so why not check out some of the other goods in the range? The information in this article is correct as of September 17th, 2019.
