Will Zoe Kravitz Finally Do Catwoman The Justice The Character Deserves?

There’s no doubt that, when it comes to Batmanand his entire story and universe in the comic books, movies have not always been good enough (well, of course, not counting The Dark Knight, which is probably the best superhero movie of all time). Well, no matter how mediocre the Batman films are, producers don’t seem to be ready to give up on the iconic character, and the massive success the origin film Jokerhas had seems to be enough encouragement to keep on squeezing the comic books for a while.

Now, it's not that Joaquin Phoenix’s take on the iconic villain was the catalyst for the new film; the announcement of a new Batman happened months ago. This only means there will be more movies based on Gotham’s favorite hero. So, let’s talk about the upcoming one, The Batman. All we know so far is that Robert Pattinsonhas been chosen as the new Dark Knight and, after a long casting process, yesterday Zoe Kravitz was finally confirmed to play Catwoman, the iconic anti-heroine.

Unlike the Batman movies, with a few exceptions, Catwoman hasn’t always been portrayed as the great comic character she is (sorry, Anne Hathaway, I like you, but nope). Having said that, it would seem that finding the right Selina Kyle a.k.a. Catwoman, was not easy, since it took the production a while to finally choose Kravitz. According to reports, there were other actresses auditioning for the role, like Zazie Beetz, Alicia Vikander, and Eiza González, but when they were paired with Pattinson to see their chemistry, the role went to Kravitz.

According to Matt Reeves, the film's director, who has worked with the Batman universe since 2017, this movie won’t follow the classic Batman narratives we’re used to seeing. Instead, it will further explore Batman's noir-like, detective side. So, hopefully, this film will breathe some fresh air into the story of the beloved superhero.

@sleeplessinfandomI must say that, although Pattinson isn’t a very exciting choice, the rumors about Jonah Hill becoming a Gotham villain and Zoe Kravitz’s casting as Catwoman give us a bit of hope about what would seem to be just another bad Batman film. Also, the change of narrative could actually be something good, so let’s hope The Batmanends up being as good as, or at least nearly as good as, Nolan’s The Dark Knight.

Pre-production for the film is expected to start sometime between late 2019 and the summer of 2020. The movie will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
