What's it about?

Set seven years after Return of the Jedi, the story will follow entirely new characters as they struggle to survive in some of the most desolate and dangerous corners to be found on the Star Wars universe. More specifically, the show is about a Mandalorian gunfighter working in the outermost regions of the galaxy.

Mandalorians are essentially human beings that live either in the Outer Rim planet of Mandalore, its moon Concordia, the planet of Kalevala, or other related worlds under Mandalorian influence. The Outer Rim, as its name suggests, includes the star systems that lie at the edge of the galaxy in which the Star Warsstories take place.

Some Mandalorians (or Mandalorian pretenders) are known to have become famed bounty hunters. The self-declared Mandalorian Jango Fett and his cloned son Boba Fett are notable examples: both have appeared on the Star Warsfilms and on many related media, and are well-known for wearing the characteristic Mandalorian armor that we'll be seeing on the show.

George Lucas Gets Chastised For Star Wars, But His Early Works Redeem Him

What should I expect?

The show is going to expand on the vast Star Wars universe from a different perspective than many other films and spin-offs, reportedly attempting to go back to the roots of the franchise.

During April's Star Wars Celebration Chicago, Pascal told fans that the Mandalorian is, "a mysterious lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy. Some might say he has questionable moral character."

Favreau declared he wanted to recapture the tone and feeling of the old western and samurai films that initially inspired George Lucas to create Star Warsin the first place, a vision that guided the franchise's first trilogy.

But it will also be its own thing, adding more elements of these genres into the story and overall setting which will make The Mandalorian something like Star Warsmeets Mad Max, according to Favreau.
