Season two premise

As such, season two will be released around the same time the first season aired in 2018,and it will mark the return of its creepy protagonist, bookstore manager Joe Goldberg (played by Penn Badgley). The first season followed Joe as he became crazily obsessed with one of his customers, a woman by the name of Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail). As his obsession grows, so does the pathological nature of his actions—until, of course, he reaches a breaking point.

This time around, the show will see Joe move from New York (the setting of the previous season) to Los Angeles, and will surely feature more of his macabre behavior.

The show is based on a series of novels by Caroline Kepnes, so the source material is still there. The first season wasinspired by the first book, while season two will be a loose adaptation of its sequel, Hidden Bodies.

What do we know about the plot?

Producer Sera Gamble went into detail about what we can expect in the second season, disclosing several key points in an interviewwith Cosmopolitan.

"We'll be going into Joe's early lifein season two, and naturally we want to know more and move around in his entire life," Gamble revealed. "I will say that the whole time we're in the writers' room talking about what that story could be, or what flashbacks or glimpses into his life we might catch, this has been a guiding principle for us; he had a pretty terrible childhood and that does contribute to who he is as an adult."

But this is not to make the audience sympathize with him, as Gamble was quick to note. "We also wanted to make it clear thata lot of us had shitty childhoods and most of us don't do what Joe Goldberg does—we're trying to walk that line."

Yet, for all his terrible vices, the producer doesn't want us to demonize or oversimplify Joe either. He's a killer, yes, but not someone who kills for pleasure or for the mere sake of it. He kills to get his way, to manipulate, to control. His actions are calculated, and he only does something if it serves a purpose."He doesn't want to kill anyone ever again,"Gamble said. "But probably, in season two, he will end up killing someone."

For better or for worse, that's what fans were probably expecting anyway. We'll all soon find out what season two has in store, but whatever it is, it will hopefully give us more of what made the first season so addictive.
