11 Celebrities Who Have Been Living The Single Life For Years

Last week Emma Watson gave us a whole new term to define being single, and no surprise here, it has a deep meaning. The British star, known for playing the smart and independent Hermione Granger, has become one of the most influential young feminists of our time, which is why her coining a new term is so relevant.

But for her, being at a crucial moment in the life of a woman when there are tons of expectations regarding their personal life, the term single isn’t that accurate. Instead, she prefers to say she’s happily “self-partnered” as a way of saying that she’s living her best and more importantly that she’s in a committed relationship with herself.

Watson is, without a doubt, a celebrity to look up to in many ways. Not only for her work on screen but more importantly for her work outside. And though her term comes in handy for those of us who sometimes struggle with the pressure of leading a single life, she’s definitely not the only one giving us some important lessons.

So, if you want to feel inspired, here’s what celebs have to say about being single, or as Emma Watson says, being happily self-partnered.

Emma Watson

@emmawatson“I never believed the whole ‘I’m happy single’ spiel. [...] I was like, ‘This is totally spiel.’ It took me a long time, but I’m very happy [being single]. I call it being self-partnered.”

Mindy Kaling

@mindikaling“I don’t need marriage. I don’t need anyone to take care of all my needs and desires. I can take care of them myself now.”

Emilia Clarke

@emiliaclarke“People keep asking me who I’m dating right now and the truth is… wait for it… no one. And that’s OK. I’m figuring out a lot of stuff right now. I think as a woman it’s in our nature to nurture someone else. Sometimes at the expense of ourselves.”

Drew Barrymore

@drewbarrymore"It's ironic that we rush through being 'single' as if it's some disease or malady to get rid of or overcome. The truth is, most likely, one day you will meet someone and it will be gone. And once it's gone, it's really gone! Why does no one tell us how important it is to enjoy being single and being by yourself?"

Chelsea Handler

@chelseahandler"Without single women and their impressive sense of self, we’d be without Queen Elizabeth I, Marie-Sophie Germain, Susan B. Anthony, Florence Nightingale, Jane Austen, Harper Lee, Diane Keaton, Greta Garbo, Jane Goodall and me, myself and I. Being single is delightfully more than it’s cracked up to be… if you can stand the horror of your own company, that is."

Halle Berry

@halleberry"A man for me is the cherry on the pie. But I’m the pie and my pie is good all by itself. Even if I don’t have a cherry."

@kendalljenner"A strong woman is independent and doesn’t need a man. She can walk into a room by herself and not be bothered."

Elisabeth Moss

@elisabethmossofficial“It’s fun to go out at night and not know what’s going to happen. I’m addicted and obsessed with my freedom in that sense. I’m having fun!”
