Disney+ Is Finally Here! Here's All You Need To Know About It

Disney has finally released its anticipated streaming service, Disney+, for the U.S., Canada, and the Netherlands. With nearly 500 films and over 7,500 TV episodes from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and more, Disney+ has launched to become one of the top competitors in the business. It gives its subscribers unprecedented access to a host of content, both old and new, from the Disney vault to the beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here's what you need to know.

What can I watch on Disney+?

Disney+ is being marketed as one of the most complete streaming services in terms of content, and really it has plenty of good things that won't be available anywhere else as of now. That includes most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Disney's own repertoire from the last century, as well as the Star Warsuniverse (with an exciting live action original series, The Mandalorian, on top of the classic films). One of the last-minute surprises for the latter is that, for the first time ever, all of the Star Warsmovies currently on Disney+ are available in 4K Ultra HD. That's a major and historic upgrade for the franchise's seven films.

Also available for the first time in 4K and HDR are Toy Story(1 through 3), Hocus Pocus, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, among many others.

Here's a partial list from Disney itself regarding what's currently streaming on its service:

Where can I watch Disney+?

Plenty of devices support the Disney+ app at launch, where you can directly stream its content. The devices include Apple iOS, Android, Chromecast, Amazon FireTV and FireOS, Roku, Xbox One, PS4, LG webOS smart TVs and Samsung Smart TV. That's pretty much all you need, really.

It's also worth noting that Disney+ launched with many of the features its competitors have been slowly integrating into their service over the years, including Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio, support for downloading on up to ten mobile devices, the ability to have up to four concurrent streams per account, and individual profiles to personalize the experience for every member of the household.

How much does Disney+ cost?

The price to access all of Disney+'s exclusive content is $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year. You get a free trial period of 7 days initially, and can also upgrade the package to a bundle that includes ESPN+ and Hulu, with a monthly subscription of $12.99.

Whether that's worth it or not is up to you to decide. And although there's an argument to be made that too many streaming services is not necessarily a good thing (my wallet, at least, can't handle all of them), it's still good to see more competition raising the bar for the industry over the coming years.
