Of Course Keanu Reeves Is A “Sage” In The New SpongeBob Movie

Remember the episode where Gary leaves SpongeBob because he neglects him after becoming obsessed with a stupid challenge? Remember the moving song? Well, it seems we’ll all be able to experience a similar kind of heartbreak once again, but now on the big screen in the new SpongeBob film Sponge on the Run, coming to cinemas next May.

In the recently released trailer, we get to see that what will send our favorite sea creatures into a new adventure is Gary's sudden and mysterious disappearance. Patrick and SpongeBob will head to “The Lost City of Atlantic City” for some reason in their quest to find who has Gary. Not only that, as it seems to be the trend nowadays, we'll also get to see how SpongeBob and Gary met during their childhood.

But besides the new animation style and the fact that it's always good to join the Bikini Bottom gang, what has impacted fans the most about this first trailer is the surprising appearance of everyone's favorite good-guy celeb, the one and only Keanu Reeves. Though it’s not quite clear what the purpose of his character is, we know he’s a gorgeous, magical tumbleweed that appears before Patrick and SpongeBob in what seems to be an Old West setting (which is weird since it doesn’t seem to be down the ocean). He introduces himself as Sage, “I’m made out of sage and I am a sage, so it works out pretty well.” And oh boy, it is working for us pretty well!

Perhaps Reeves will be the key character that will lead our marine heroes to Gary, or perhaps it’s just a short cameo, but what we know is that his appearance is wise indeed. Kudos to the producers, who decided to follow the trend, and triple kudos to Keanu for always surprising us in the most random ways!
