Cool shops? Check. Trendy restaurants/cafes? Check. Great entertainment? Check!
Once again, another skyscraper has been added to the ever-expanding Shibuya skyline(not that we’re complaining). Meet Shibuya Fukuras.
Still considered as relatively new (it opened in November 2019), Shibuya Fukuras is an impressive 18-story building composed of the popular shopping mall Tokyu Plaza Shibuya, a variety of restaurants and cafes, a rooftop terrace, offices, a tourist information center and a bus terminal (the list goes on!)
Although it’s a rather spacious complex, it isn’t too difficult to navigate your way around and pretty straightforward, especially with a floor guide and help from the friendly people at the information desk. This means you can have a relaxed experience, without the fear of getting lost.
With so many things to do, you might begin to feel overwhelmed and not know where to start. So we recommend you check off the following things to do/see off your list.
1. Shibuya-san Tourist Information Center and Art Center (1F)
First up: the first floor. Here, you’ll find a tourist information and art center that will provide you with information on the best restaurants, shops, attractions, and trends in Shibuya. What’s slightly different about this information center is that there’s also an art exhibition inside.
According to the staff, the inspiration behind the artwork is from Tokyo’s Shibuya district and Nagaoka (a small city in Niigata Prefecture). As they say, art is a form of communication and what better way than to bring local and international visitors together? You’re also able to purchase bus tickets, SIM cards, exchange currency, store baggage, charge electronic devices and use the free wi-fi, too.
Oh! And be sure to have a drink at the cozy bar!
2. Hachiko Hologram (2F)
“Let’s meet at Shibuya Station?” “Okay, where?” “By the Hachiko statue!” Everyone knows the Hachiko statue which makes it a very popular, but extremely busy meeting spot. Sometimes, due to the overbearing crowd, you may have difficulty finding one another. This is exactly why you’ll find another one on the second floor of Shibuya Fukuras, except it’s a Hachiko hologram created by the GMO Internet Group. You can have fun (and kill time) by dressing Hachiko up and give other commands using the tablet next to it.
3. 111-IchiIchiIchi (3F)
With a total of 69 shops, Shibuya Fukuras offers everything from clothing, home goods, accessories and more. You’ll be able to find the perfect little souvenirs or special occasion gifts, but you’ll also find that window shopping here is equally (well, nearly!) as fun. Don’t miss out on 111-IchiIchiIchi (styled “111-ICHIICHIICHI”) located on the third floor. Described as a “premium concept store,” it is specifically for special pop-shops that change monthly. Depending on the month, the theme will also be different. What’s unique about 111-IchiIchiIchi is that it offers rare order-made, customized, and original products found only at the store. Definitely worth a browse!
4. Pepper Parlor (5F)
You’ll find a wide variety of restaurants on floors 6 and 7 that serve Japanese cuisine including ramen, tonkatsu,and yakitori. But why not step into the future and experience being served by robots (yes robots!) Produced by SoftBank Robotics, the robots help the human staff by serving you, taking your order and providing you with entertainment (fun games, plus they dance!)
The cafe’s culinary specialty is waffles and its premium drinks. We loved the Matcha Amazake Vegan Shake—perfect for those with a sweet tooth and oh-so Insta-worthy.
5. Rooftop Garden Shibu Niwa (17F) and Cé La Vi Restaurant and Sky Bar (18F)
Finally, your visit would not be complete until you’ve gone up to the 17th floor to enjoy the breathtaking vista of Shibuya’s city lights and the famous crossingfrom the rooftop garden, “Shibu Niwa.” Take a seat at Bao by Cé La Vi (a casual cafe and bar) or if you’re feeling fancy, head up the 18th floor to Cé La Vi Restaurant and Sky Bar and enjoy the fine dining and drinks experience with spectacular views.
