Germany’s Bundesliga is set to make its return to action in the coming days after country officials gave the green-light for the soccer league to finish its season. One club however will be missing an integral part of its team once play start back up.
FC Augsburg’s manager, Heiko Herrlich, will not be with the club once the season restarts, as he was caught breaking quarantine rules that were set by the league. According to reports, Herlich left where he was supposed to be quarantined to purchase toothpaste. Prior to the season restarting, players and managers were required to self isolate for two weeks, where they were regularly tested.
Herrlich said in a statement that he regrets his decision but understands what he did wrong. “I made a mistake by leaving the hotel,” he said. “Even though I have followed all hygiene measures both when leaving the hotel and otherwise, I cannot undo this. In this situation, I was not able to act as a role model for my team and the public.”
Augsburg will play their first game post-restart on Saturday against Wolfsburg. The club is currently 14th in the league.
