President Donald Trump offered a confusing explanation of his “positively toward negative” coronavirus test result Thursday at the White House.
“And I tested very positively in a another sense. This morning,’ Trump said. “So Yeah, I tested positively toward negative, right? So I tested perfectly this morning. Meaning I tested negative. But that’s a way of saying it. Positively toward the negative”
Trump announced on May 7 that he would begin testing for COVID-19 daily after his valet tested positive for the illness. He said other high-level officials, including Vice President Mike Pence would also be tested every day.
The White House is using Abbott labs rapid-testing kits.
COVID-19 has killed more than 97,000 people in the U.S. Trump falls into the at-risk category, having a documented history of heart disease and being 73 years old.
