The NBA Store in New York City on Fifth Avenue is one of the most popular stores on the avenue, but the league is now faced with $1.25 million lawsuit over the store.
The landlord, who rents out the space where the NBA has its Fifth Avenue store, is suing the league’s media ventures division. The landlord claims hat the league failed to pay its $1.25 million rent for the store.
The suit says that NBA Media Ventures failed to pay its rent in either April or May while the store was closed during the pandemic.
In a statement on Wednesday, the NBA’s COO Mike Bass said that the league will try to resolve this matter as quickly as possible. “Like other retail stores on Fifth Avenue in New York City, the NBA Store was required to close as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Under those circumstances, we don’t believe these claims have any merit. We have attempted, and will continue to attempt, to work directly with our landlord to resolve this matter in a manner that is fair to all parties,” he said.
There has yet to be an official announcement as to when New York City will open back up for retail shopping, meaning it is still unclear as to when the NBA Store will reopen.
