映画シーンを牽引しつつある新鋭の製作スタジオA24とブラッド・ピットが率いるプランBがアカデミー作品賞ほか3冠に輝いた『ムーンライト』（2016年）以来の再タッグ！
2019年の第35回サンダンス映画祭では監督賞＆審査員特別賞をダブル受賞し、数々の映画祭でノミネートされた超話題作『ラストブラックマン・イン・サンフランシスコ』が、2020年10月9日（金）より新宿シネマカリテ、シネクイントほかにて全国公開される。
19世紀のゴールドラッシュで発展した米西海岸を代表する都市・サンフランシスコ。パール・ハーバー以前は日系人が街を発展させ戦後は黒人たちが多く住んでいたが、彼らも立ち退いてゆき、現在は全米で三番目にビリオネアが多く住む街になっている。
そんな急速に変わっていくサンフランシスコを舞台に、主人公のジミーは親友のモントと共に心のよりどころを探し求め、理想とするコミュニティを復活させようともがく。たとえ財産がなくても、かけがえのない親友と、ささやかな守るべき・守っていきたい“何か”を持っている。それだけで人生はそう悪くないはずだ……。
本作で描かれるジミーの姿は、日々せわしなく生きる我々に、温かい抱擁のような余韻を残してくれる。

監督はジョー・タルボット。タルボットとともに脚本をつとめるのはロブ・リチャート。主人公ジミーを演じるのは今回が長編デビューとなる新人俳優のジミー・フェイルズ。脇を固めるのは、スパイク・リー監督の『ザ・ファイブ・ブラッズ』（2020年）に出演するジョナサン・メジャース、『黒い司法 0％からの奇跡』（2019年）のロブ・モーガン、『プレデター2』でマイク・ハリガン警部補演じたダニー・グローヴァー。ジミー・フェイルズは監督のジョー・タルボットと幼なじみであり、本作はジミー自身が経験した実体験をもとに製作された。そして、新進気鋭の作曲家エミール・モセリが手掛けた曲が予告でも流れているが、この美しい音楽がどう物語を彩るのか楽しみだ。

Also featuring background vocals by the endlessly troublingly talented @iam_kamilah. From San Francisco to Norway to Brooklyn back to LA. So many people touched this piece of music. Next up are my favorite movies and TV shows of 2019. This year’s list includes everything from explorations of class dynamics and relationships, to an inspired reboot of a classic graphic novel, to a portal back to one of the most special places in history — an Aretha Franklin concert. Of course, there’s also American Factory, a film from our own production company, Higher Ground, that was recently shortlisted for an Oscar. It’s our first offering in partnership with Netflix, and I’m excited about the other projects we’ve got in the works. Here’s the full list:
