Gaming giants Xbox and PlayStation join the Facebook ads boycott

Xbox and PlayStation have joined the Facebook ads boycott. The console makers are the latest in a long line of companies to take part in the Stop Hate for Profit campaign, in which firms are refusing to advertise on the social media networking site throughout the month of July in a bid to get Mark Zuckerberg's firm to change the way it handles hateful content. PlayStation said in a statement that they "have globally suspended [their] Facebook and Instagram activity, including advertising and non-paid content, until the end of July". The boycott was kickstarted when Zuckerberg sparked controversy last month, after he refused to take down a post by US President Donald Trump. Amid the Black Lives Matter protests following the death of unarmed African American George Floyd, Trump had written: "When the looting starts, the shooting starts."
