WhatsApp has launched a search feature for debunking fake news.
In a bid to crack down on the spread of misinformation, select countries are able to benefit from the Search the Web tool which gives them the chance to check the authenticity of a forwarded message.
All they have to do is tap a magnifying glass icon next to the message and then they will be taken to their default browser and there they can find out if the facts are true or not.
In a blog post, WhatsApp said: "Providing a simple way to search messages that have been forwarded many times may help people find news results or other sources of information about content they have received."
Search the Web is being rolled out in Brazil, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, Spain, the UK, and the US.
In May, WhatsApp introduced a chatbot to help with coronavirus fact-checking.
The new feature - which was launched by the Poynter Institute for Media Studies' International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) - connects the messaging app's users with more than 80 organisations to tell them whether certain information is false.
The database includes rumors determined as false - including fake vaccines and miracle cures - as well as racist misinformation about the spread of the coronavirus, and false claims that COVID-19 was caused by 5G.
IFCN's director Baybars Orsek said: "Hundreds of millions of users rely on WhatsApp to stay in touch with their friends and families every day.
"Since bad actors use every single platform to disseminate falsehoods, to mislead others during such troubling times, fact checkers' work is more important than ever."
Furthermore, the Facebook-owned messaging platform also created a coronavirus information hub, limited message forwarding and donated $1 million to help fight fake news.
