Fall Guys devs: We want the game to feel different every time you play

The developers of 'Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout' want the game to feel like a new experience every time it's played.

Mediatonic released the fun battle royale style party game earlier this month, and it has already become one of the breakout games of 2020, with millions of copies sold within its first few weeks of launch.

And lead designer Joe Walsh has admitted the game's success has "absolutely obliterated" any targets they had for the title.

He said: "Our highest estimates have been absolutely obliterated by the actual response ... you can't plan those things. You can't predict it. Sometimes, it's just right place, right time."

Going forward, Joe says the Mediatonic team are hard at work on more content for 'Fall Guys' to keep people engaged, with new game modes in the works.

He added: "Game shows are built on variety and they're built on novelty so for Fall Guys to achieve its goal of being the 'greatest game show ever made' we need to create that sort of variety and that sort of novelty."

The developer is currently playtesting new ideas, as well as "new interesting ways to play" including cross-play and a "squad" mode.

And ultimately, Mediatonic wants to get 'Fall Guys' to a place where a player has a completely different experience every time they play.

Joe told Kotaku Australia: "It's a lofty goal and it's going to take a while to get there but I think that's the biggest focus for the team right now."
