Pakistan government bans Tinder

Tinder has been banned in Pakistan.

The popular dating app and a number of other similar apps, like Grindr, have been banned for disseminating "immoral content".

The Pakistani government has issued notices to Tinder, Grindr, Tagged, Skout and SayHi to inform them of the move, which means they can no longer function in the country.

Ray Walsh, a digital privacy expert at ProPrivacy, explained that the government is seeking to exert greater control over what is and isn't available to Pakistani citizens.

He told the BBC: "These latest blocks reveal that the government is ramping up its efforts to control the flow of ideas on the internet.

"Pakistani citizens will be used to oppressive levels of censorship to prevent citizens from accessing LGBTQ content, nudity, and anything else considered immoral, and due to the fact that extramarital affairs are also illegal, dating sites are now being targeted as the government feels these could be fuelled by online dating apps."

The Pakistani government previously issued a warning to TikTok over explicit content posted on the app.
