Bat blamed for hospital power cut

A bat has been blamed for a power cut at an Australian hospital.

Specialist baby units at Adelaide were left without power for almost an hour on Tuesday (29.09.20) evening after the bat "interfered" with the power network.

Hospital director Phil Robinson said that medics were able to care for patients despite the power outage.

He said: "Our staff are trained for such incidents ... they put those plans in place, so patient care was maintained throughout the outage period.

It was the fourth blackout at the hospital in the past two years and Robinson suggested that the electrical infrastructure will now be reviewed.

He explained: "There's no common theme, [so] it's appropriate for us to commission a review of all the electrical infrastructure."
