Gilius renews his contract with FC Schalke 04 for the 2021 LEC season God Gilius is here to stay.

God Gilius will stay with FC Schalke 04 through the 2021 LEC season.

Eberk “Gilius” Demir has officially re-signed with Schalke 04 for one more year after stepping in as the starting jungler in the 2020 LEC Summer Split and almost completing the miracle run to make it to the 2020 World Championship.

The 2020 season was very turbulent for Schalke after a Spring Split with a lot of internal issues resulting in mid-season roster swaps. The team ended the split in eighth place and did not make it to the playoffs stage. The Summer Split started out just as poorly as in spring, but after adding Gilius, the whole squad started to turn things around.

Under the lead of Gilius, Schalke went on a seven-game winning streak to miraculously make it to the playoffs. Suddenly, Schalke had a chance to make it to Worlds which was never in the cards considering the team’s previous performance. Unfortunately for Schalke, they fell short against MAD Lions in the deciding best-of-five, ending the season on a very anticlimactic note.

Schalke 04 to build team around Gilius for 2021 LEC season

Going into the 2021 season, Gilius will likely be hungry for revenge. The German jungler was so close to leading his team to its first World Championship, but fell short at the finish line. Gilius proved that he is still a high-caliber jungler that knows how to lead a team.

Alongside Gilius, Schalke has decided to keep head coach Dylan Falco and mid laner Felix “Abbedagge” Braun. The rest of the team is still unknown, but the foundation is set for a team that will be aiming to finally make Worlds and a deep run in the LEC playoffs.

The core of the team currently looks strong, but Schalke will need to hunt more talented players for the team to be a real LEC contender. Schalke could end up looking towards some rookies from the European leagues that will benefit from playing under an experienced jungler like Gilius.

The remaining players of Schalke are off their contract from November 16, so announcements of new players will likely follow after that.
