A Man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Eddie Hassell

A man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Eddie Hassell.

The 'Surface' actor was shot in the stomach over the weekend in Grand Prairie, a Dallas suburb, and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

And on Wednesday (04.11.20), the United States Marshal Service North Texas Fugitive Task Force and Grand Prairie Police arrested 18-year-old suspect D’Jon Antone on suspicion of Capital Murder.

Antone, who was arrested without incident, is being held on $500,000 bond while the case is referred to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.

Police believe the shooting was the result of a “random robbery”, and do not think Antone was targeting Hassell specifically.

Earlier this week, the actor’s team said the shooting happened during what appeared to have been a carjacking “outside his girlfriend’s apartment in Grand Prairie, Tex. at approximately 1 am”.

A representative for the star added at the time: “The shooting is currently under investigation, and the motive for the shooting is unclear. There is no suspect in custody. His girlfriend was in her apartment when it happened, and she didn’t see the assailant.”

Prior to Antone being taken into custody, police were offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest.

A series of tweets on the Grand Prairie Police Department's Twitter account read: "On Sunday, November 1, 2020, at around 1:50 a.m., Grand Prairie Police Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 3000 block of West Bardin Road.
