The Tennessee Titans have informed outside linebacker Vic Beasley Jr. that he will be released.
Beasley was signed to a one-year contract worth $9.5 million back in March. The Titans had hoped that they would get a good player to help the team in the pass rush. However, what they received was a player that had underperformed and has shown little work effort.
Beasley was selected to his only all-pro selection in 2016 with the Atlanta Falcons. In the 2016 season, he had led the league in sacks with an impressive 15.5 sacks and 32 tackles. In the 2019 season with the Falcons, Beasley recorded 42 combined tackles.
When the Titans had signed Beasley, they had hoped that he would keep up the solid numbers and possibly return to his all-pro bowl form. However, instead, Beasley had reported 10 days late to camp and due to an unexcused absence was fined $500,000. As a result, when he did report he was placed on the non-football injury list.
Beasley made his official Titans debut during week three’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. He only recorded three tackles and one forced fumble while playing in 118 snaps on defense. This was an absolute decline in his production compared to last season with the Falcons.
The Titans will most likely call the second-year outside linebacker Derick Roberson to take Beasley spot in the rotation.
Beasley was released along with cornerback Johnathan Joseph and snapper Beau Brinkley.
