Twitter buys Revue newsletter service

Twitter could allow users to send out email newsletters.

The microblogging website has acquired editorial newsletter tool Revue to give content creators a boost on its platform.

The service lets writers easily compose their own issues with links, videos, tweets and other media, while helping people stay up to date with their interests.

Now, Twitter is planning ways for writers to connect with subscribers and helping readers discover new content.

One of these is letting users register for newsletters from their favourite follows, and another adds new settings to allow writers to host conversations with their fans.

There will also be an incentive model with paid editions, as Revue will let writers grow their paid subscribers with a reason to produce engaging and relevant content which encourages discussions on Twitter.

As reported by Tech Radar, audience-based monetisation is a key area the company wants to develop in the future.

Meanwhile, Twitter is also making Revue's Pro features free for all users and lowering the paid newsletter fee to just 5%.

They will still invest in the service as a standalone firm, while its team will concentrate on finding ways to improve writers' opportunities to create newsletters, build their own audience and receive money for their work.
