Zoom unveils their virtual receptionist feature

Zoom has unveiled their virtual receptionist feature.

The video conferencing app has boomed owing to the coronavirus pandemic and it now has a new feature, which allows someone to remotely check-in visitors and unlock doors.

Its Kiosk Mode allows companies to install a computer or screen in the reception area of their building, where real-life guests can chat to someone in real time, who may be working from home or anywhere in the world, and unlock doors to allow them through or notify meeting participants.

Speaking about the future, Harry Moseley, Zoom's chief information officer, told CNBC: "The receptionist doesn't need to be in office. They can be at their own home. They can be anywhere. They can actually be in a different country, and they can support multiple buildings."

With their new offerings, Zoom's Neat Bar Pro appliance will also allow people to monitor air quality, humidity and carbon dioxide levels as well as "volatile organic compounds".

They shared: "You can view this environmental data on the Zoom dashboard, on the Zoom Rooms Controller, and on the Scheduling Display for real-time feedback on the safety of your meeting rooms."

Oded Gal, Zoom's chief product officer, spoke of the importance of offices needing to be "safe, connected, and productive" amid the coronavirus pandemic and onwards.
