Kashmiri leaders hail major policy shift of Indo-Pak ceasefire pact

Srinagar,

The Kashmiri leaders cutting across the political spectrum hailed the fresh pact between India and Pakistan to hold fire along the defacto border in the region.
The line of control (LoC) has been rattling with gunfire almost on daily basis causing massive loss to property as well as the civilian lives.
Use of heavy artillery and the small arms fire has been common before the director generals of military operations of the two countries issued a joint statement declaring a fresh ceasefire.
This has come over one and half year after New Delhi scrapped regions semi autonomous status that allows the non state residents to buy land and property in Kashmir.
The ceasefire is a rare departure from the threats of war that loomed over the region following revocation of Kashmir’s semi autonomous status on August 5, 2019. India and Pakistan have fought four wars over Kashmir and the the two countries were close on the brink of another war after a Kashmiri rebel killed at least 50 paramilitary force personnel in a car-driven explosion on a busy Srinagar-Jammu highway that connects Kashmir with rest of India in 2019.
Top separatist leader, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, said, ” It is a move in the right direction, which will provide huge relief to the beleaguered people living under constant threat on the LOC and end the bloodshed there.”
Former chief minister and pro-India leader, Farooq Abdullah, said , ” The agreement between the DGMOS of India and Pakistan will go a long way in ushering long lasting peace alongside LOC and IB.”
The first ceasefire agreement was signed by the two countries in 2003 after years of anti-India uprising that started in 1989 in Kashmir.
“In the interest of mutually beneficial and sustainable peace in the entire region , Governments of India and Pakistan need to address the core concern of J-K in keeping with the aspirations of its people, which is the cause of conflict and violence in the region,” said Mirwaiz.
The ceasefire preceded amid a tense standoff between the families of rebels and the government forces over the return of their bodies. The forces have denied return of bodies despite pleas by families fearing that it could trigger massive anti-India protests here. There has been an uptick in the attacks by rebels on the forces as well the gun battles by the police that are launched on specific tips.

Spools of barbed wire dot across Kashmir as the gun battles between troops and rebels have seen an uptick### Share and Enjoy !
