Ashley James reflects on motherhood

Ashley James didn't know what to expect from motherhood.

The former 'Made In Chelsea' star welcomed son Alfie Rivers into the world three months ago with her partner Tom Andrews and admitted she was initially nervous about becoming a mom because she didn't know if she could be maternal.

Reflecting on the three months so far, she wrote: "What a ride it's been. I honestly didn't know what to expect with motherhood. I've said it a lot but I wasn't maternal. Plus, people constantly tell you the negative things: enjoy your sleep whilst you can, enjoy your freedom etc ... But this has been the most amazing 3 months. Motherhood is magical, tough, but magical.

"I just love being Alfie's mum ... I can't wait to see what the next 3 months has in store, and I just love getting to know this sweet, natured soul."

And Ashley also admitted she has a new "zest and excitement for the future" now.

She added in a lengthy Instagram post: "The last year has shown me that you never know what is around the corner. I'm so happy I got to live such a happy and full life before he came along, and I can't wait to continue to see the world with a new sidekick by my side. Being Alfie's mum has given me a zest and excitement for the future that I've never felt before - I can't wait to hear his first laugh, discover his interests, and see what he achieves with his life. Thank you guys for sharing the ride with me, and for helping this clueless mama navigate motherhood in lockdown. It's not the first time I've said it, but honestly I'm so grateful."
