PlayStation 5 update offers new storage option

A new PlayStation 5 update now allows gamers to move their favourite titles to an external hard drive.

Hideaki Nishino, the senior vice president of platform planning and management at the tech company, has announced details of the update via the PlayStation blog.

He said: "With this feature, you can now transfer your PS5 games to USB extended storage from your console’s internal storage.

"It’s a great way to extend the storage capabilities of your PS5 console, and you can seamlessly copy your PS5 games back to the console’s internal storage when you’re ready to play. It is faster to reinstall PS5 games from USB extended storage than to re-download or copy them from a disc."

Meanwhile, Sony Interactive's Jim Ryan recently outlined his ambition for the cutting-edge console.

The PlayStation 5 console was launched last year amid much fanfare and Jim revealed what he thought Sony's latest design could achieve over the next few years.

He said: "I'm not going to make any statements about what our targets for PlayStation 5 are.

"But I see absolutely no reason why anybody couldn't achieve sales of 100 million consoles in this generation. And I see many reasons why that's possible."
