'Nomadland' won the Oscar for Best Picture on Sunday (25.04.21).
The Great Recession drama - which stars Frances McDormand as a woman who leaves home to travel around the American West - scooped the biggest honour at the Academy Awards, beating off competition from 'The Father', 'Judas and the Black Messiah', 'Mank', 'Minari', 'Promising Young Woman', 'Sound of Metal', and 'The Trial of the Chicago 7'.
Director Chloe Zhao accepted the honour and said: "On behalf of my fellow producers, we thank the Academy and we thank our brilliant fellow nominees, and all the hearts and hands that come together to make this movie."
After offering up a string of thank yous, she then praised the nomads that were the real-life subjects featured in the film, as she added: "Thank you for teaching us the power of resilience and hope and for teaching us what real kindness looks like."
Frances - who was also one of the producers - then took the microphone and urged people to get back into cinemas once they reopen when coronavirus restrictions lift.
She said: "Please watch our movie on the largest screen possible and one day soon, take everyone you know into a theatre, shoulder to shoulder, in that dark space, and watch every film that's honoured here tonight."
She then said the victory "was for our wolf" - believed to be a reference to the movie's sound mixer Michael Wolf Snyder, who died in March aged 35 - before closing out her speech with a howl.
Earlier in the evening, Chloe made history as the first woman of colour and only the second woman ever to win the Best Director Oscar for her work on the movie.
