The Last Two Smash Bros - Could More DLC Be Revealed at E3?

With just two more characters left until the end of the second Fighter’s Pass for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Nintendo is on schedule to wrap up the DLC by the end of this year.

While some fans have hope that a third Fighter’s Pass is coming, the official word is that Smash Bros. DLC will end this year. With that said, we can expect Nintendo to reveal both Smash Bros. characters at E3 this year.

With Pyra and Mythra releasing in March of 2021, June is a reasonable time to expect an announcement of the next fighter, which is just in time for E3, when we can hope to see other reveals from Nintendo.

Ever since Joker, the first DLC of the game, not including Piranha Plant, was released, the releases have been rather consistent, with each fighter pack arriving within 2 or 3 months of each other.

The only exception would be the gap between Byleth, the last character of the first Fighter Pass, and Min Min, the first character of the second Fighters Pass.

This was around the time when the pandemic hit and the video game industry started shifting to working from home, which likely contributed to the gap between the two. But it can also be argued that the gap was simply going to happen regardless since it was ending one Fighter’s Pass and starting the next.

Had the pandemic not hit and E3 had run as normal in 2020, chances are that Nintendo’s E3 presentation would have started off with the reveal of Min-Min as a fighter, and closing out with the reveal of Steve from Minecraft.

This would mirror the 2019 presentation somewhat, as Banjo & Kazooie and Steve are two fighters whose reveal have and would have left enough of an impact to end each presentation.

Announcing the next fighter in June during E3 2021 would mean either a June or July release of the DLC, taking Pyra and Mythra’s release date. However, we could also expect two Smash Bros. reveals on E3, as they had on E3 2019 when Nintendo unveiled Hero and Banjo & Kazooie.

This would make sense, as a character would be released in summer and then in autumn, finally closing out the Fighters Pass. When Fighter’s Pass Vol. 2 was first revealed, it was stated that all the fighters would be released by December 31st, 2021.

However, there is still the possibility that a Vol. 3 will be announced, though there are currently no official sources claiming that Vol. 3 is in the works. For now, we can be sure that we will see at least 1 Super Smash Bros. DLC reveal at E3 with 100% certainty.

As for who could the fighters be, it’s all still up in the air. A popular candidate that’s been talked about is Crash Bandicoot is one of the last two, but these are all just rumours.
