Clubhouse launching on Android

Clubhouse is launching on Google's Android.

The invitation-only live-audio app - which has only been available on Apple's App Store since its initial release over a year ago - has seen downloads drop significantly after a spike in popularity this year.

Now, the platform has been testing the app for users in the US, with UK and other English-speaking countries set to follow "in the coming days".

In a blog post, the company said: "We are thrilled to share that Clubhouse for Android will start rolling out in beta immediately.

"We will begin gradually, with the U.S. today, followed by other English-speaking countries and then the rest of the world.

"Our plan over the next few weeks is to collect feedback from the community, fix any issues we see and work to add a few final features like payments and club creation before rolling it out more broadly."

According to research company App Annie, Clubhouse boasted around 13.4 million users in late March, and peaked in February with 9.6 million downloads.

However, it had just 2.7 million in March and just 900,000 in April.

While Clubhouse is said to be more focused on compelling content than the number of users, rivals like Facebook and Twitter have been moving into the audio game.
