Destiny 2: Spoiler-free Season of the Splicer Breakdown

With the Guardian Games over it is time for the Guardians to get back to work. This is the coverage of everything that has arrived in Destiny 2 in the Season of the Splicer. And since it is a spoiler-free article we will not touch on any story-related stuff (apart from what has been shown in the trailer).

As I mentioned before, no spoilers ahead of time. If you haven’t seen the trailer of the Season of The Splicer you can check it out here. But long story short, one day the Tower wakes up without the sun and it seems that the Vex managed to stick us in the simulation. With our best bet being Mithrax we are suiting up to find him and break out of the simulation.

It is great to see Ikora finally having returned as an active character in the story of Destiny 2. Even though it seems that the voice actor now is different. There are rumors that Ikora features a new VA because of how different she sounds in the trailer. I have to say that I only noticed the difference after I read about those rumors.

There is no official statement from Bungie on this matter but I assume it’s the same VA, we just haven’t heard Gina Torres (Ikora’s original VA) for a long while. Especially considering that Gina Torres posted a pep talk for Warlocks during the Guardian Games.

Destinations Redesign

Another notable change in Destiny after the update is the Destinations tab. The H.E.L.M, our new comfy base of operations now has its own button to directly travel to. As well as we have a new icon on the right of Gambit, which is called “Legacy”, it will feature “Legacy raids, dungeons, and other content”.

This is definitely a place for the Vault of Glass, a raid that will soon be coming back after a very long time. And also for any other content that Bungie will rotate in and out of the game.

We can’t call ourselves Guardians if we are not talking about the loot. This season brings us a bunch of new guns to play and test. Some will become available later with things like Trials of Osiris, Iron Banner, and Grandmaster Nightfalls but let’s revise what we have.

The main one is the new Stasis-powered weapon – Cryosthesia 77K, an elegant sidearm. This pistol has 2 firing modes, regular tap-and-shoot, and hold-and-freeze, similar to the Devil’s Ruin. To unleash the power of the gun you have to kill an enemy first and using it will consume the whole magazine.

If you look carefully throughout the collection you can make a list of other interesting weapons that arrived (or came back) with season 14. And yes that includes Quickfang.

  • Hung Jury SR4 (Scout rifle + Adept version)
  • Survivor’s Epitaph (Crucible themed Hand Cannon)
  • Borrowed Time (Gambit themed Submachine)
  • Shayura’s Wrath (Trials Submachine + Adept version)
  • Riiswalker (Iron Banner themed Shotgun)
  • Empty Vessel (Vanguard themed Grenade Launcher)
  • Plug One.1 (Nightfall themed Fusion rifle + Adept version)
  • Eye of Sol (Trials themed Sniper rifle)
  • Uzume RR4 (Sniper rifle + Adept Version)
  • Quickfang (Sword)
  • Eternity’s Edge (Sword)
  • Crown-Splitter (Sword)

There were a few more guns but those appear to be random world drops and nothing more. There is an interesting detail about the Riiswalker though. The description mentions Saladin not allowing Fallen in the Iron Banner. But then he allows a Fallen forged weapon which Riiswalker in fact is. Looks like we are getting pretty close with the Fallen this time.

Transmog and Fashion

I will definitely write a separate article/guide on the transmog system, so let’s just do a quick overview of the feature I was waiting for since beyond light. You will get access to this feature via a quest from Banshee-44 which will lead you to our well-known exo friend Ada-1.

Throughout the quest, you will receive a good bunch of resources to create your first ornaments. You can craft 10 ornaments straight away and earn more resources as you progress. For Guardians that have been collecting different armor pieces, it’s time to shine. While I will run around in the classic Hunter outfit.

Seasonal Artifact

Destiny 2: Season of the Splicer introduces a Seasonal Artifact called the “Paradome Cube”. And yes, I don’t have it unlocked fully so most of the icons are in the dark but bear with me.

We see the return of Warmind Cells and Charged with Light mods this season. Definitely, some combinations and experiments with old mods could be made. While other mods focus a lot on Grenade Launchers and enhancing them in every way.

But let’s cover the most expensive mods. “Breach and Clear” (9 energy) which on damaging the boss, champion, or destroying a shield with the Grenade Launcher will reload your stowed weapons and causes the combatant to take increased damage for a short time period. “Glacial Inheritance” (6 energy) refunds Super energy upon killing enemies with Stasis Super.

We had Gambit, Colorful Gambit, and now let me introduce you to the Retrowave Gambit! As you might expect from Gambit, you have to collect and deposit motes, similarly to the Season of the Arrivals public event but the final stage is to jump to the Vex network and destroy the boss there.

The loot system, on the other hand, is straight from the last season’s Battlegrounds. There are 2 chests, one free to open to anyone, and the other one requires a key that is produced in the same way as in the Battlegrounds (Just via a different item in the Quest tab).

And here we are with Destiny 2: Season of the Splicer! There’s still stuff to discuss like the exotic ornaments, upcoming weekly quest, and a dozen of Eververse cosmetics but let’s try to keep that for later.

A great infographic about the weekly reset is here if you need it. Don’t forget that you can collect the old season’s rewards for each class here. Stay tuned for the upcoming articles about the Season of the Splicer and I will See you on the battlefield Guardians!
