Fortnite: DreamHack Cash Cup Extra 3 — Recap & Results

ESTNN recaps week three of the DreamHack Cash Cup Extra.

The third Cash Cup Extra Presented by DreamHack concluded earlier this evening, and the best teams in NA East and Europe brought the heat. The top 132 trios from Monday’s Trio Cash Cup qualified for this event, where the two regions competed for a share of $50K USD. Week three was perhaps the best of the bunch.

Two former Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) winners claimed the throne in what may have been the last significant trios event before the FNCS Season 6 Semi-Finals. With a heavy emphasis on elimination points, these 264 teams played aggressively. However, only two could triumph over the rest in their respective regions.

The Reigning FNCS Champions Finish Strong

Dominance is one word to describe the reigning FNCS Champions - Jannis "GUILD JannisZ" Matwin, Chapix and Henrik "GUILD Hen" Mclean. This trio disastrously began the season. The three young competitors were not seeing eye-to-eye and sat on the verge of a break-up despite winning the Axe of Champions.

Despite their differences, JannisZ, Chapix and Hen regained control of the narrative after their bumpy patch and channeled it into some of the best competitive Fortnite the world has ever seen. The three players started the day with a second and seventh-place finish, respectively. JannisZ, Chapix and Hen finished the tournament in style with two Victory Royales and a runner-up.

In total, the defending FNCS Champs reached an unfathomable 855 points and 91 eliminations. Additionally, they became back-to-back tournament winners after taking first in Monday’s Cash Cup. Their DreamHack Cash Cup Extra win netted the dominant triumvirate $2.1K USD to split.

Team Wolfiez & Team Noahreyli Round out the Top Three

World Cup runner-up Jaden “XL Wolfiez'' Ashman and teammates ALOFT Voidd and LootBoy Slender secured themselves another solid finish following their performance in the third FNCS Qualifier.

Although they fell significantly behind the Cash Cup Extra winners, Wolfiez, Voidd and Slender hung around at the top all day. Their nine-match effort produced 782 points, including 81 eliminations and two Victory Royales. The trio collected $1.8K in prize money.

The always entertaining combination of BL Noahreyli, Wave Vadeal and Rezon ay landed in third place with 687 points. They put together an exceptional 27-elimination Victory Royale in match number six, which catapulted them up the leaderboard. Europe put on an outstanding show where the top talents flexed their capabilities. Check out the final results below to see how all other trios performed:

The Season 4 Champions Claim Victory

The NA East region saw a similar result with three former FNCS Champions atop the pack. The all-ENDLESS team of Reverse2k, Mero and Deyy earned 633 points en route to their first Cash Cup Extra win. A fortunate last-minute queue allowed Reverse2k, Mero and Deyy to secure a seventh-place finish in the final match, which cemented first place.

The Season 5 Champs reached the winner’s circle with 54 eliminations and two Victory Royales. With the Season 6 Finals looming, these three could not be in a better position to earn their second Axe of Champions.

Two Underdogs Take Second and Third

Five-time FNCS Finalist LG Jamper led his of Threats and DT Rise to a second-place finish. Despite only playing seven matches, this trio played super consistently with six top-ten finishes. The exclamation point occurred in their final game, where Jamper, Threats and Rise completed a Victory Royale with ten eliminations. It was an excellent 621-point effort out of a team not many expected to see at the top.

The underrated team of 9LIVES V0IL, XPRT Xccept and Snake also claimed a Victory Royale in their final match, which landed them in third place overall. They earned 598 points across eight matches with one Victory Royale.

Some other notable names inside the top 15 include TrainH Saf, Liquid STRETCH and C9 Avery and TSM Comadon, FaZe Cented and NRG Edgey, who finished fourth and fifth respectively. Here is the top of the leaderboard:
