Begun in 2020, the Summer Game Fest is an all digital, pseudo replacement of conventions like E3. Last year’s event was a several month long digital showcase of upcoming games. While this allowed a lot of games to be showcased, it did retract from the hype of the event and was compared to E3, which was one week long hyperfocused blast of gaming news.

This year, they aim to address that very critique, but are still planning on at least several weeks of events (shown by the calendar at the time of this article’s publishing). The “kickoff live’ starts at 11:00 AM PDT with Geoff Keighley and Weezer.

Hopefully we’ll get some news on much hyped titles in development, like Elder Scrolls 6, or Starfield, or *crosses fingers* Elden Ring. OOoOoooH Elden Riiing! Sorry. That trailer is dope.

I’d bet money we don’t get any news on a GTA VI, instead we’ll get more info on GTA V’s port to PS5 or whatever…

RIOT Games is also going to appear, according to the released graphic that shows the included companies. I hope they show at least a teaser for their MMO, or maybe some gameplay. A release date would be pretty cool too, but I doubt we’ll get that.

Prime Gaming is also featured, so we BETTER get some good news on New World, Amazon’s MMO. With it being so close to the release date of August 31 2021, I’d hope we get some more detailed information.

We can speculate all day long, but we’ll have to wait until the Summer Game Fest itself to see what happens. I’ll be there. “There” being in my chair, watching from home… You know what I mean.
