Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown coming to PS4

Sega has announced 'Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown' is coming exclusively to PlayStation 4 next month.

The title will hit the Sony machine on June 1 marking the one-on-one beat 'em up series return to consoles after a 10-year absence.

'Ultimate Showdown' is a remake of 'Virtua Fighter 5' which originally came out as an arcade cabinet in 2006 before finding its way onto PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2007.

The gameplay and playable character will remain the same but the title's graphics have been updated using Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio‘s Dragon Engine, which has been used to update 'Yakuza: Like a Dragon' and spin-off game 'Judgement'.

As well as the improved graphics there is new music for each stage and online features such as a spectator mode, tournaments and a lobby system.

The 'Virtua Fighter' series began in 1993 with the release of the first ever game in arcades and it quickly became a massive coin-op hit.

It was successfully ported to the Sega 32X Mega Drive add-on and the Sega Saturn and is widely considered to be the the first 3D fighting game and one of the most influential releases in the genre.
