NieR Replicant Switch Version Hinted at Datamine

Recently, datamining on NieR Replicant has revealed references to the NX. As many people remember, “NX” was the codename for the Nintendo Switch, which hints that the NieR Replicant Remaster was or is planned to be released to Nintendo Switch.

Half a year ago, the Switch version was rumored due to the Amazon listings that showed NieR Replicant and Prince of Persia Remake coming to the Nintendo Switch. The recent datamine does hint that the game is indeed headed for the hybrid console.

Credit: Square Enix> It’s very likely that at the point of shipping the current version of the game, switch support either was canned or far from finalized as there are no mentions of the platform in the string dump whatsoever.PC executable mentions licensing strings for all the platforms the game currently shipped on but unlike internal config, doesn’t mention Switch at all:

LICENSE_COMMON
LICENSE_ORBIS
LICENSE_STEAM_DURANGO

Curiously enough PC license is bundled into same option as Xbone whilst mentioning Steam specifically, if it were otherwise i’d suspect a MS Store version but this is just confusing lol (unless it’s some classic japanese equalization of PC = Steam).

While this may seem promising for Nintendo Switch owners who wants to play the game on the console, the same data miner has said that the file containing the references to the NX “doesn’t seem to be used by the game anymore.” The dataminer has tried deleting the file, which did not appear to have any impact on the game; normally it would crash the game on load.

There has been no official announcement regarding a Switch version of the NieR Replicant Remaster, so don’t take this revelation as certainty that it is coming.

NieR Replicant Remaster is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows.
