Minecraft to get first half of Caves and Cliffs update on June 8

‘Minecraft’ set for part one of the new ‘Caves & Cliffs’ update next week.

Both the Bedrock and Java editions of the sandbox video game will receive the newest update on June 8, developers at Mojang have confirmed.

The latest patch will include new blocks and mobs, and will be available on mobile devices, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and S.

‘Caves & Cliffs’ part one will see three new mobs added to the game, including axolotls, the Minecraft Earth-exclusive glow squid, and goats.

Axolotls can be found underwater and will only attacked Drowned, so are harmless to players, and glow squids will also not attack players.

However, goats re the most aggressive of the three new mobs in ‘Minecraft’, headbutting players whenever possible.

In addition to the new mobs, ‘Caves & Cliffs’ brings a whopping 91 new blocks to Minecraft including amethyst, copper, and dripleaves.

Mojang have said some of the new blocks "might be a bit trickier to discover” naturally in the game’s survival mode, but players can switch to creative mode if they want to view the new blocks without the challenge of discovering them in the world.

The ‘Caves & Cliffs’ update is set to bring huge changes to the game – which first launched a decade ago in 2011 – and has been split into two parts to spread out the content.

The second half - which doesn’t have a specific release date as of the time of writing - is set to include “much bigger changes”, as it’s slated to grow the size of mountains and the depths of caves, while also enhancing how those biomes are automatically generated.
