Tammy Wynette 'always put her family first', says daughter Jackie

Tammy Wynette was "most happy with family".

The iconic country singer enjoyed incredible success during her music career, but according to her daughter Jackie, her family always remained her main focus in life.

Speaking about her late mother - who passed away in April 1998, after years of health troubles - she shared: "She was just wonderful. She was the best."

The 'Stand by Your Man' hitmaker remains one of country music's best-known artists, while her turbulent personal life - which included having four kids, five failed marriages and a prescription pill addiction - also kept her in the headlines before she passed away at the age of 55.

However, in spite of her personal problems, Jackie insists her children remained her number one priority.

She told the US version of Closer magazine: "There were times when she'd just come off the road and she was exhausted. But she'd say, 'Girls, pack up, we're driving to Florida.'

"We'd load up and she'd drive through the night."

Jackie, 58, thinks she's inherited her mother's family-first approach to life.

She also recalled her little displays of generosity that proved just how much Tammy carer for her, despite the ups and downs in her personal life.

She explained: "There was a time when I had children and had been divorced for a couple of years.

"She'd call and say, 'Honey, do you want to come and get some leftovers?' So of course, I'd go over and sometimes she'd be there and sometimes she wouldn't.

"There were times when she'd say, 'I've left you a cheque in the planter outside the front door.' She'd put a cheque in a zip-up bag and would say, 'I don't want you to spend it on the girls - I want you to spend it on yourself.'"
