Old school fans might remember the Infinity Gauntlet LTM from 2018, where players could control the ultra-powerful Marvel supervillain. It was an iconic crossover for Epic Games and Fortnite that eventually led to more characters in the game, and even an in-game collaboration in Chapter 2 - Season 4. Players have had the privilege of sporting Marvel heroes and villains such as Iron Man and Mystique, but Thanos never materialized as a playable outfit until now.

Epic Games has announced that Thanos will enter the realm of Fortnite Battle Royale, this time as a playable character. Interested parties can expect the otherworldly being to arrive in the Item Shop on June 26. For those who don’t want to wait, the upcoming Thanos Cup grants players the chance to unlock the skin early.

It carries incentives and opens more casual players to the world of competitive Fortnite. Beginning June 21, teams of two have the chance of earning Thanos’ in-game character outfit and back bling if they can finish inside a pre-determined placement threshold.

The tournament’s scoring criteria heavily leans in favor of placement points over eliminations. Teams who earn a Victory Royale will receive a total of 42 points toward their score. Eliminations are worth one point each.

Prize Distribution

Talented tandems that are looking to acquire Thanos’ skin and back bling will need a strong effort. All of Fortnite’s seven competitive server regions have the chance to earn the cosmetics, but it won’t be easy. Europe tops the list in terms of prize distribution. Teams that place inside the top 3,375 will collect their glorious prize winnings. The placement threshold then becomes more demanding per region. However, earning at least eight points will net your team the “Thanos Watches!” cosmetic spray as a consolation prize.
