Tech giants support the UK's vaccine drive

Tech giants are working with the UK government and the NHS to encourage young people to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

The likes of Snapchat, Reddit, TikTok and YouTube have joined the campaign to encourage people to book their vaccine as soon as possible.

SnapChat, for instance, has announced plans to host a series of Q&As with medical experts about the vaccine. The tech company's app is also providing information about mental health and general wellbeing amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Ed Couchman, from Snapchat, said: "We’re thrilled to collaborate with the government to make sure they have accurate and trusted resources to stay safe, healthy and informed."

TikTok has teamed up with Team Halo to share helpful information about the vaccine and therefore encourage young people to receive the jab.

Matt Hancock, the UK's health secretary, is delighted that tech firms have decided to throw their considerable influence behind the vaccine drive.

He said: "I am delighted that Snapchat, Reddit, TikTok, and YouTube - some of the biggest social media platforms - are coming together to support the most successful vaccine effort in NHS history."

All adults aged over-18 were recently invited to receive the vaccine in England, and there was more than one million new bookings in just two days, suggesting that the advertising campaign is working.
