LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - MAY 30: Alex Caruso #4 of the Los Angeles Lakers reacts after being called for a foul during the second half of Game Four of the Western Conference first-round playoff series against the Phoenix Suns at Staples Center...

Los Angeles Lakers guard Alex Caruso was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia at Easterwood Airport in College Station, Texas.

Lt. Bobby Richardson of the Texas A&M Police Department said that Caruso tried to board a flight at Easterwood Airport, which is located on A&M property.

The Transportation and Security Administration searched Caruso’s bags and found a grinder that contained marijuana, according to Richardson. The marijuana that was found on Caruso was less than two ounces.

Caruso was released after posting bond. The bonds totaled $4,200 plus an additional $522 fine for the paraphernalia charge.

When news of the arrest came out, teammate LeBron James jokingly tweeted that he would do whatever it took to free Caruso.

Commentator Stephen A. Smith also had something to say about the arrest. Smith is known for infamously saying the line: “Stay off the weed.”

“DAMN, Alex Caruso,” Smith wrote in a tweet while sharing a clip of him saying his famous line.

Caruso signed with the Lakers in 2017 and has since played a key role off the bench. The guard has become a fan favorite in Los Angeles. The 27-year-old averaged 6.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 58 games this past season. The guard played six games in the 2021 NBA Playoffs, averaging 5.8 points in 20 minutes per contest. The Lakers were knocked out in the first round.

Caruso is slated to become an unrestricted free agent.
