Xbox boss Phil Spencer discusses future of Halo franchise

Xbox chief Phil Spencer says the 'Halo' franchise “will be here 10 years from now”.

The Microsoft gaming boss has opened up on the future of the hugely popular series and insists 'Halo Infinite' will "absolutely not" be a deciding factor when it comes to its survival.

When asked if the title was make or break the franchise, he told the latest episode of IGN’s 'Podcast Unlocked': “'Halo' will be here 10 years from now. Is 'Infinite' the lynchpin on whether it survives that long? Absolutely not.”

Spencer added that the 'Halo' fanbase is so significant and the franchise has “such a history and lore” that it’s not going anywhere.

He said: “The game has such a rabid fanbase and such a history and lore that it’s just an IP that’s going to be with us. We don’t take that for granted, but I definitely believe in my core that that is true.”

The boss also reiterated previous comments, when he expressed his confidence in 343 Industries ability in “making it a game that 'Halo' fans will be proud of” in time for a "Holiday 2021" release but stated he has no interest in putting additional pressure on the team making that deadline.

He revealed: “I never want to put a team in a position where they feel, this one’s got to land or who knows.

“We are so focused on 'Halo' this holiday and making it a game that our 'Halo' fans will be proud of, that’s the most important thing to us, but I’m not one of these kind of dire prediction people…I trust the team,

"I trust the progress they’re making, and I have confidence in 'Halo Infinite.' ”
